Gee's Bend Quilts and Beyond
January 11, 2008
This unusual exhibit looks at Mary Lee Bendolph's creative and expressional processes as well as her entwined connection to the cultural practices and expressive traditions from which her work arises. Twelve exquisite designed, richly colored, improvisational quilts created by Bendolph and her family; her mother Aolar Mosely, daughter, Essie B. Pettway, and daughter-in-law Louisiana P. Bendolph, are presented alongside found object sculptures by Thornton Dial and visionary "yard art" artist Lonnie Holley.
