Route 66 Talk with Images

Announcing another installment in the University Libraries Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series: October 9, 2007

Julie McGilvray, the John Gaw Meem Fellow in the Center for Southwest Research and graduate student in UNM's Landscape Architecture Program, will present a lively, kitschy, yet scholarly, talk on historic roadside architecture along Route 66. Her colorful images drawn from historic advertisements, postcards, and photographs document the rise and decline of vernacular commercial architecture along the famous highway, particularly focusing on gas stations, motor courts and cafes. Come and learn more about your local built environment and cultural landscape!
