Santa Fe Realty Partners Welcomes David Pazdernik

November 08, 2007

I was born in Bessemer in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan but my father moved the family to Detroit when I was just over a year old: he needed work and there was little to be had in Bessemer; it had had its day as a mining town. When you're the oldest of 4 in a second-generation Czech family you have a lot of responsibility and absolutely no authority, so I often wished I'd been born an only child. After high school my father said college was a great idea as long as I had the money. So I went to work as a junior arata director at J. Walter Thompson Advertising, where I got more than a college education. I transferred in 5 years to the head office in New York. I then returned to Detroit, and then went to Chicago, where I spent the next 25 years at a number of ad agencies, including one of my own that I ran for 10 years. In 1990 I sold my business and moved to Santa Fe to write and paint. I worked in real estate for a few years and reduced my golf handicap to one digit. I'm an enthusiastic skier, gourmet cook (I'm sure I was an Italian in another life), I have a pilot's license, which has enabled me to rise above this beautiful land and view things from a new perspective. I spent many years doing crisis work with suicidal and homeless teenagers in Chicago, and am actively involved in men's work in New Mexico. I believe that if each of us aspired to be the best that we can, the world would be a better place.
