Subdivisions
The Northern New Mexico region around Santa Fe is loaded with traditional villages and new subdivision communities modeled after them. If you are looking for living within a community with breathtaking views and friendly neighbors, then check out some of these communities.

Abiquiu

Abiquiu is rich with history, both ancient and modern. Native Americans made Abiquiu their home for centuries, but Georgia O'Keefe is the area's most famous resident, and Abiquiu was immortalized in the red cliffs, mesas, peaks and plateaus of her paintings. O'Keefe came here for the light - and you'll probably notice it too. There's a perceptible difference in the color of the sky, earth, trees and water in Abiquiu.. Abiquiu Lake, 7 miles north of town, is used for water sports and recreation.

Aldea
An exciting New Urbanist village on Santa Fe's prestigious northwest side, Aldea de Santa Fe is destined to become a harmonious community where people can live, work, shop, socialize and play. With a name taken from a traditional Spanish word for 'village,' the development is based on traditional Spanish Colonial towns where homes are gathered about a central commercial and civic plaza. Alteza Estates
Alteza Estates is a private gated community within the established bedroom community of Eldorado and features a mix of families, retirees, and couples. It is only twenty minutes from Santa Fe and feels like a transition between city and country.

Arroyo Hondo
Arroyo Hondo is known for being a horse-friendly community, with most lots sized at 5 or more acres and many properties having horse facilities. There are protected open spaces and a system of private trails throughout the neighborhood. Access is good to town, just 10 -15 minutes away from shops, services, medical facilities, movies, and more. The El Gancho Health Club is close-by, as are the popular dining spots of Harry's Roadhouse and The Steaksmith. The best of country living can be enjoyed in this well-established area.

Belicia Estates
Bordering Alteza Estates in El Dorado, Belicia Estates is a prestigious gated community with large lots, open green space, full of walking trails, and privacy. Close to the El Dorado Community Center and El Dorado's new dog park, it's a short and easy 15 minute drive to the Plaza in downtown Santa Fe.

Bishops Lodge Villas
Bishops Lodge Villas, located near the village of Tesuque, offers beautiful pueblo style town homes providing all the modern amenities without compromising traditional aesthetics. There is an extensive trail system in and around the village allowing for easy access to open space and national forest for hiking and horseback riding. Tesuque has one small elementary school which is part of the Santa Fe Public School system.

Cochiti Lake
People have been living in the Pueblo de Cochiti area for hundreds of years, yet the Town of Cochití Lake, built on a mesa overlooking the Rio Grande River and the Lake, and located about halfway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, has a much more modern history. There is fishing, boating, sailing, and windsurfing at the lake, and golfing at the world-renown Pueblo de Cochiti Golf Course. The town itself has 360 degree views of the Jemez, Ortiz, Sandia, and San Pedro Mountains, so you can spend your time hiking, camping, rock-climbing, boating, biking, or simply relaxing and enjoying the view.

Devargas Heights
DeVargas Heights lies east of Old Pecos Trail near Zia Road. It is a mature subdivision of moderate priced ranch or pueblo style homes on lots of about 1/5 to 1/2 acre. You will find homes of about 2,000 square feet, some dated, some renovated, and some new more expensive homes.

Eldorado
A planned community development located an easy fifteen minute drive from downtown Santa Fe, Eldorado's spacious lots and generous homes mark a clear transition between city life and country living. With over 5,000 residents, Eldorado is a great family neighborhood, and features a central shopping district, elementary school, library and a community club house with pool and other amenities. Eldorado lot sizes typically range from 1 - 2 acres. Garages are required with all homes and single-story construction is predominant. Many of the larger roads are paved and all roads are maintained by Santa Fe County.

Estancia Primera
Estancia Primera is a development with a community pool, tennis courts and Clubhouse for private parties.  It consists of single family homes, townhomes and condominiums

Galisteo and Lamy
Just a few miles south from the conveniences of El Dorado, the villages of Lamy and Galisteo offer true country living. Large lot size and spectaculat views. Galisteo Village is an historic sheep-ranching center and Lamy is a true railroad town where the saloon is now a museum, where you can have breakfast or lunch in an old dining car if you like. A little further out than most places, both offer unbeatable serenity and unparalleled beauty.

Hyde Park Estates
There are several scenic neighborhoods that border Hyde Park Road as it ascends to the Santa Fe Ski Basin. Many of them have sweeping views of the city lights and/or the surrounding mountains.  Hyde Park Estates development.  Many of these are older homes, although there are some new homes and some lots available for building.  This is where Ponderosa pines begin, giving an Alpine mountain feel to the land.  Last, before reaching the Ski Basin is the gated community of Santa Fe Summit with its elegant homes and tall Ponderosa pines.  Some building lots are still available here, as well.

La Joya
Present-day La Joya is located near the site of an ancient Piro Indian Pueblo that the Spanish named Nueva Sevilla, or Sevilleta.   During the eighteenth century, this was the southernmost settlement along the Camino Real before travelers entered the despoblado, or uninhabited area, between here and El Paso del Norte. Today La Joya boasts some remarkable properties and homesites fur quiet country living.

Las Campanas

The La Cienega/Highway 14 area is south of town on either side of I-25 (La Cienega on the west, Highway 14 on the east). The terrain is high mesa and lots tend to be one-plus acres. Views are generally long and lovely, and housing varies from mobile homes, to alternative (e.g. bermed-in or strawbale) to traditional Santa Fe style.

Las Cordilleras
Big skies envelope the entire 85 acre Las Cordilleras development. Northwest of Santa Fe this subdivision has 23 mountain-view lots ranging from a spacious 2.5 to 6.7 acres. Wilderness Gate
Wilderness Gate is a mountain community with tall ponderosa pine, pinon and juniper.  It lies between the Historic Eastside and the Santa Fe National Forest.  The homesites are predominately 5 acres and orient to the West.  The covenants allow single-family dwellings, a private garage, recreational facilities and non-rental: studio, workshop and guesthouse.  There is wonderful hiking and the community allows horses.
